Alumni & Friends of SMAC

Though the Sport, Media, and Culture minor is formally in its second year, the program draws upon the extensive Notre Dame Alumni & Friends network to create opportunities for its students in sport-related professional fields. 

Betsy Ross M.A. '77

Emmy® award winning sports reporter Betsy M. Ross is president of Game Day Communications, a sports and entertainment communications firm based in Cincinnati. Ross was one of the first women to break into national sports news and anchored ESPN’s SportsCenter and ESPNews. Before that she worked at NBC News Channel and Cincinnati’s NBC affiliate, WLWT‐TV, where she covered the 1996 Presidential Election and the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and Olympic trials. She is author of the 2010 book Playing Ball with the Boys: The Rise of Women in Men’s Sports continues to be involved in sports broadcasting as play‐by‐play anchor for women’s and men’s college basketball for ESPN, and Fox Sports, and teaches Sports Journalism at Ball State and IU.

Anne Roy '81

Anne Roy ‘81 (AMST) is the Associate Director of the PGA Tour Live on ESPN, a Freelance Stage Manager on the TODAY Show, a 5-time Sports Emmy winner, and contributor to River City Live, a daily lifestyle show in Jacksonville, Florida. Previously, Roy worked as a local news producer, anchor, reporter, morning show guest booker, field producer, AD for NBC, CBS Olympics, and NBC Page. Throughout her career, she has worked at NBC, ESPN, CBS, USA Network, WJXT, WTLV, and WICS.

Ken Dice '87

Ken Dice is the former VP, Global Brand Marketing for Nike Women.

"Some of the best classes I had here at the University and within the College of Arts and Letters wasn't the ones associated with my major, it was everything from art history to music. I even took a semester of German just because I wanted to!"

Eugene Lee '95

Eugene Lee serves as the CEO and Managing Director of 3 Strand Sports &
Entertainment, a sports management, consulting, and creative agency. He
represents NFL players, executives and coaches and produces a variety of
unscripted and scripted content for national brands, college athletic programs,
and digital distribution platforms. With over twenty-four years of experience as
an NFLPA certified contract advisor and having twice built his own sport
agencies from the ground up, Eugene has significant experience in business
development, marketing, industry networking, organizational training, and
leadership.
Lee was the featured agent in the ESPN documentary, “The Dotted Line” and is
the author of “My Brother's Keeper: Above and Beyond The Dotted Line with
the NFL Ethical Agent.”
