Author: Claire DeMeo

Dr. Katherine Walden, assistant teaching professor of American studies, was recently featured in an article for WSBT on football's record-breaking popularity among Americans, crediting its pop-cultural ties that have drawn in a larger demographic of viewership. Dr. Walden teaches "Football in America" for the Sport, Media, and Culture minor, along with other courses on the intersection of sport, society, data and technology such as "Baseball and America," "Sport and Big Data," and "Data Feminism." Her "Football in America" course centers upon the history of football, particularly as an institution at Notre Dame, to analyze larger themes concerning football's social, cultural, and economic implications using reasoning from the humanities and from a data perspective.
