Las Vegas Sign With The Text Replaced To Highlight The Smac Minor Instead

Join faculty from the College of Arts & Letters’ newly-launched Sport, Media, and Culture Minor in Las Vegas for a presentation about the iconography and visual dimensions of Shamrock Series history and how these intersecting elements of athletics and aesthetics knit together a story of Notre Dame’s heritage and the affective power of geographical spaces.

Please note: the event time is 11:30 a.m. PDT.

According to James E. Rohr Director of Athletics Jack Swarbick, the Shamrock Series is about tradition, history, and presence.

“Having a story to tell, that’s really what it is all about. Just going somewhere to play a football game isn’t the same as going to New York and celebrating the tradition and history with the military academies, or going to D.C. and celebrating our governmental relations, going to Chicago and celebrating the presence that Notre Dame has there. When you do those, it knits it together for you.”

From Yankee Stadium to Soldier Field to Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, the Shamrock Series highlights and celebrates Notre Dame’s past, present, and future. Famously known as the Entertainment Capital of the World, Las Vegas is an ideal setting to explore the history and significance of the Series’ celebratory spectacle. Join faculty from the College of Arts & Letters’ newly-launched Sport, Media, and Culture Minor for a presentation about the iconography and visual dimensions of Shamrock Series history.

Get a taste of the rich interdisciplinary conversations Notre Dame students are having in this newly-launched minor by being a part of this event focusing on how the Shamrock Series celebrates Notre Dame Football’s independent identity and rise to national prominence and exploring the storytelling strategies that drive fan engagement through compelling and geographically-rooted stories about tradition, innovation, and competition.

The panel will feature professors Katherine Walden (American Studies, Gender Studies) and Christine Becker (Film, Television, and Theatre), affiliated faculty in the new Sport, Media, and Culture minor, which is led by the Department of American Studies in partnership with the Department of Film, Television, and Theatre.
